“Gangnam Style” by PSY is the international hit of the year. Many Americans have heard the catchy tune that originated in the Republic of Korea. It captured the hearts of many listeners; however, like with any song that is overwhelmingly catchy, many people are becoming frustrated with it.
PSY is the stage name of the real songwriter and singer Park Jae Sang. In addition to his music career, Jae Sang is a model, rapper, dance musician, and record producer. Because of the Gangnam fever, he has appeared on "Saturday Night Live", "The Today Show", the iHeart Music Festival, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, "Extra", the Korean shows "Good Sunday: X-Man" and "The Golden Fishery," and many other programs.
In the aftermath of the Gangnam fever, Jae Sang told Fashionnstyle.com, “I’m walking down the street like, ‘Why I’m here? Why I’m here?’ I’ve done this 12 years in Korea and I’m [a] rookie here now." One little known fact about PSY is that he is the father of twins. Because of the difference in calendar systems, Korea measures the age of their citizens as two years more than the age in America. In the article, he said, “They are born October 1st, so they are 4 years [old]. 2007, October 1st. So, they are 4 years old in United States and they are 6 years old in Korea. ”
“Gangnam Style” is only one of the many K-Pop songs Jae Sang has sung. “Gangnam Style” has led to many Americans looking to the rising trend of K-Pop songs by some of Jae Sang's most famous bands and some of his new ones, including NU’EST, Girls Generation, Super Junior, BIGBANG, 2PM, 2AM, 2NE1, ANJELL, and CNBLUE. In other words, “Gangnam Style” is just the doorway to the K-Pop world more people will come to love.
