In just over a week, the Construction class has made significant progress on the Habitat for Humanity house. Students have finished installing the trusses and putting up foam insulation on the outside walls of the home.
Friday, November 9, two teams worked hard to put up rafters so that they could begin covering the roof. One team put up smaller rafters in the front, the second in the back put up the larger rafters, and a third team finished insulating the storage shed which was completed quickly. After a minor setback where a joint did not fit properly, the second team was able to mount several rafters.
When they finish sheeting the roof, as Matt Hamlet, the construction teacher, said, "You won't be able to see the night sky anymore."
Surrounding neighbors have taken a positive interest in the project, one man even asking for a tour of the small home. Although it isn't much now, just a shell, eventually it will be inhabited by a family.
