Four of Orange High School’s very own teachers were approved for a National Board Certification. National Board Certification is an advanced teaching credential program that lasts for ten years, in which the applicants must complete ten assessments. The types of assessments including portfolios, examination of the way they teach, writing papers, and taking an exam.
"It may take a couple years to complete all of these tasks but it was worth it and I’m proud of it,” says Becky Smith.
Along with this certification comes a raise in pay, which is why math teacher Brian Parker applied. “My wife said we could have another child if I was approved for NBCT."
With Mr. Parker and science teacher Becky Smith, math teacher Mark Moore and art teacher Mary Parker were also approved. Moore said, “It was a long process, it takes a lot of practice and I like to reflect on it”.
Mary Parker feels the same way, saying, “I’m glad it’s over and I am very honored to have been approved”.
