Wednesday December 5, Mrs. Frye and the Sports Marketing class went to the Charlotte Bobcats vs New York Knicks basketball game. The game started at 7:30 p.m.
The New York Knicks won the game, and the final score was 100 to 98. The New York Knicks took on the win over the Bobcats, despite the valiant efforts given by the Charlotte team. Over the years, the New York Knicks manage to win and make ties with other teams.
New York’s winning streak has allowed the ‘Bockers to tie Miami for the best record in the Eastern Conference and retake the lead over the Brooklyn Nets in the Atlantic Division. Looking past the ‘Cats to the Heat isn’t the only concern tonight as Charlotte might be the most improved team in the Association. You know another team that has already matched last season’s win total? A year after going a laughable 7-59, including a win over the Orange & Blue in Madison Square Garden, the Bobcats are a respectable 7-9. So, they would have to lose 50 games in a row to match last year’s ineptitude.
The Bobcats improved offensively, thanks in large part to a pair of New York-area products. Second-year man Kemba Walker is averaging 16.6 PPG, 5.9 APG and 2.13 SPG, all team highs. Coming off the bench is another former UConn Husky, the pride of Mount Vernon Ben Gordon, who is averaging 15 PPG in 25 MPG. The Knicks need to find Gordon on the perimeter, as he is Charlotte’s top three-point threat.
Joining Gordon on the second unit is journeyman point guard Ramon Sessions, who's providing scoring and floor leadership. It’s
Charlotte’s three-guard rotation that has them playing better basketball this season. First-round pick Michael Kidd-Gilchrist [10.8
PPG, 6.3 RPG] has also been a solid contributor, while 23-year old center Byron Mullens [12.9 PPG, 8.4 RPG] is starting to come into his
own in his fourth NBA season. While Mullens mans the middle, he’s no stranger to spotting up beyond the three-point arc, meanwhile
Kidd-Gilchrist is very well aware of his shooting limitations.
