Thursday, January 31, from 5 to 7 pm, OHS held its second open house for students and parents. Teens were allowed to walk around with their families, talk to teachers, and learn a little bit more information on their classes.
The importance of the second open house was questioned, but there were many good reasons to hold this event. Will Okun stated, “It is important for parents to meet with teachers and discuss about the classes.” Also, some students needed to get acclimated to where their classes are so they can find easier routes to get to class. One of the students, Penny Bass-Wilson, said, “I really like to meet my new teachers, it makes me feel better about taking the classes.”
Okun estimated that there was anywhere from one to two hundred kids at the open house. The parking lot was packed, so it was clear that a lot of people attended. Many people wanted to walk around and see their teachers about last semester's grades, and some families were not able to make the first open house at the beginning of the year.
This event made many people excited for the new semester. It gave students a new opportunity to bring up their grades and, for freshman, it was a good way to meet new people. When asked about the new semester, Okun said, “It’s a new start, a chance for kids to have a new teacher, and for seniors, it is your last chance in this school. I hope it goes really well.”
