In 2009, we saw the Star Trek series rebooted. Now, four years later, we finally get to see a sequel. Star Trek: Into Darkness definitely lives up to the four year hype that surrounded it. Director J.J. Abrams brings back to life the characters of James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) that were originally played by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy in the 1966 series.

The film starts off with Captain James T. Kirk and Dr. Leonard McCoy (Karl Urban) running away from the natives of a distant planet and trying to escape. It turns out that Kirk and the rest of the USS Enterprise crew are trying to save the distant planet by dropping Spock inside an active volcano that is ready to erupt at any second. Spock's job is to activate a device that will keep the volcano from erupting. Things go wrong when the crew are unable to bring Spock back up to the Enterprise and his life is put at risk. However, Captain Kirk breaks a rule prohibiting the natives from seeing the Enterprise and saves Spock from his near-death experience.

All that happens just in the beginning with the real plot revolving around a villain, played by Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, who has been brilliantly added to throw everyone, including the audience, off-guard.

Into Darkness is a thrilling science fiction film that does not disappoint and will keep you at the edge of your seat throughout the whole movie. It’s a genuinely exciting film that keeps you wanting more and more just as a Star Trek film should be.
