Hillsborough, North Carolina gets ready for a festival every year called Hogg Day. The people of the town make their best BBQ, pie and any other type of food that one can think of so that other people can enjoy it. Every year it keeps getting better and this year is no different.
Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18, many people gathered around the Hillsborough Farmers Market Center to do all the things that makes a community a community.
Accompanying the good food, there was a lot of great entertainment. A local band, Decatur Street Beat, played on Friday and Saturday. Sometimes, during the two days, you could hear the music all throughout Hillsborough. Decatur Street Beat is made of four men named Dick Sloane, Keith Longmire, Mike Acquesta, Irv Eisen. If one stayed around long enough, they might have been able to see the mascot of the event, James Hogg. James Hogg was a merchant that traveled from Scotland. He helped people in Hillsborough by giving a lot of land to the town. He also became a partner in the Transylvania Company, a Trustee of the University of North Carolina, and a leader in patriot activity as a member of the Hillsborough Safety Committee.
Sarah Kendall, an attendant of Hogg Day, said, “I haven't been to Hogg Day in probably two years, and this by far was one of the best times I've had. Everyone was really nice and the food was amazing! My favorite part of the day, by far, was seeing all my friends and trying the smoothie in a watermelon! It was amazing!”
Hogg Day was a great experience and everyone is waiting to see what comes out of next year’s Hogg Day.
