Layne Ruley, a saxophone player and senior at OHS, took his sax up to a community fundraiser April 29 in downtown Buena Vista, VA that supported a local health clinic. This was an event entitled Rooster Fest, in which Ruley sang vocals and played the only saxophone at the Bluegrass Festival.

The event was held to honor Rooster Ruley, Layne's late grandfather, after he passed away. Rooster was a world-renowned Bluegrass artist, and held the title of 8th most sold Bluegrass album, according to Layne.

Layne said that "30 groups got up and played anything that they wanted to. [Groups] came from California, Tennessee, and some famous people were there. The funds either went to the group or to the hospital that had Rooster when he passed away." He said that all groups donated the funds to the hospital.

Although Ruley has performed in numerous Bluegrass bands, this time was the best. "It was nice. I wish I wouldn't have to play because I wasn't supposed to and the only reason [I did] was because Rooster passed away. I would have loved to for a different reason."
