For Orange High School’s 2013 newspaper editor, senior Brianna Hales, journalism was a passion found in an unusual way. At first, she was only taking the course as a prerequisite for yearbook, but after one semester, she was hooked. She stated, “My tenth grade year during the first semester was the only time throughout my high school career that I did not take journalism class. The class itself has given me such a deeper knowledge about problems both locally and internationally.”
Hales hopes to continue with journalism in college as a Communications major at UNC, saying, “UNC Chapel Hill has been my dream school ever since sophomore year because of journalism class. The school has a friendly atmosphere and a nationally ranked journalism program.”
Outside of journalism, Hales also enjoys studying Latin, being a member of the school tennis team, and dancing.
