Students may think it is hard to find something to do that will not only look good on a college application, but you can also enjoy. At Orange High School, sports are not always in the spotlight. There are over 30 different clubs you can join at Orange that not only boost your college application, but can help you find your passion.


Anime Club


If you like to watch anime or read manga this club is for you. Members gather weekly on Thursdays to discuss differences and similarities between their favorite anime and they also study Asian culture and manga. The club is from 8:15 to 8:40 in the morning.


Beta Club


Beta is a very exclusive club. You have to be invited into this club. You achieve this by being in the top 10 percent of your class GPA-wise. You are inducted into it after you accept and then you begin helping in the community and learning about how to become a leader. You are able to hear speakers who have used Beta Club to their advantage and it looks great on a college application. The meetings are on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month and they are held at 8:15 in the morning.


Drama Club


Drama Club is all about developing the theatre program by providing social activities for everyone to get together (since everyone's not in the same class) as well as to expand actor and tech training.


FBLA


FBLA is a club that would be good to join if you enjoy leading people and working in a business environment. FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America. In FBLA you use these skills to travel around and show your work at conventions around the state. To be in FBLA you need to take or have taken a business class in your school career.


FCA


FCA stands for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. FCA is a good place to go if you want to learn about being a Christian. It may sound like you have to be an athlete to join, but they welcome in anyone. It is held in the weight room of the school every Thursday at 8:15 to 8:45. It is a great place to go if you need someone to talk to about your problems or about anything that has been on your mind.


FCCLA


FCCLA is a great club to join if you have ever taken a food or design class and liked it. FCCLA stands for Future Career and Community Leaders of America. FCCLA teaches about family-oriented careers and problems that could actually happen in real life. To be in FCCLA you have to take or have taken a design, food, or family class in school. They meet on Wednesday, on the 3rd of the month, from 4 to 5 pm.


FFA


FFA is an agricultural based club, that teaches you how to pursue a career in farming. They raise animals and show them off at many different competitions. They also go into depth on what types of animals need what type of attention. They get recognition for their chapter and for themselves when going to college.


Gay/Straight Alliance


This club helps to deliver help and encouragement to people in the LGBT community. This club provides education and information on what it means to be gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender and is a very open club.


Interact Club


This is a service club that helps to beautify the world, helps people in need, and helps to develop leadership roles in the community. Some things that the Interact Club does are Adopt a Highway, adopting a child for Christmas, the annual "Kiss the Goat" fundraiser, the "Dollars for Doors" fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity, working at the Rotary Club's pancake dinner to raise funds for scholarships, painting picnic tables on the OHS patio, selling Crush Cans for Valentine's Day, and more.


Key Club


If you like to help kids, Key Club is for you. They go around to places like the Ronald McDonald House to help kids who are sick and to help the parents who are upset as well.


 

Ladies of Style and Distinction


The Ladies Of Style and Distinction is designed to help enhance young ladies to obtain and change their negative values of life into positive ones. The club also works to encourage their character development and good citizenship.


Latin Club


Latin Club participates in Fall Forum which is like a fun day for Latin Club members in the area. They prepare for the NC State Latin Convention. There are many different competitions from chariot racing to writing poetry and prose to making jewelry. The club meets on certain Thursdays. It’s joined with Cedar Ridge as well so both high schools make up one Latin Club.


Link Crew


Link Crew helps people learn to work as a team and builds up the freshmen class as they begin high school. Link Crew participates in freshmen orientation and comes into the freshmen homerooms to give them advice throughout their first year.


Music Club


Music Club is an informal meeting for people to play music, explore different styles of music and videos of musical performances.  Most people have played guitar or bass, but there are no requirements.  Music Club supports the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.


National Achievers Society


This club helps to recognize and encourage students of a minority group with a GPA of 3.0 or greater. You must be inducted into the club and be nominated by a teacher. They nurture a student's education and help students resist peer pressure.


National Technical Honors Society


NTHS recognizes students in CTE classes that have a GPA or 3.5 or higher in CTE classes. You must be inducted into the club and have a weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher, complete three CTE classes, and be a member of a CTE organization. They participate in Career Day, CTE Month, Relay for Life, and Adopt a Family around holiday time.


OHS Book Club


Book Club gets together every Friday. They get together to to choose a book and then divide it up into two weeks of reading. The club comes back and discusses what they like such as the characters and the plot. They also have snacks.


Orange High School Habitat


Habitat for Humanity is building and planning a house for a poor family. In the club, members fundraise and work on the house.


Peace Club


All students are welcome to join Peace Club. There are no dues for members.


The club is focused on raising money and awareness for Invisible Children. Peace Club is engaged in a competition through Invisible Children called Schools for Schools where our school competes with others in the region to raise the most money.


Hedgehogs Robot Building Team


The Hedgehogs are part of an international organisation that, in a six-week period during January and February, creates a fully functioning robot from an idea. After building the robot, they bring it to two competitions.


SGA


If you like to have school spirit and like to get involved with the school, this club is for you. The SGA holds elections every year to pick who will represent each class. Elected members get to pick out the sash and tiara for the homecoming queen. They choose what days spirit week will consist of and they choose the days it will be on. They meet every second and fourth Wednesday of the month.


DECA


This club focuses on teaching students about a marketing setting and how to sell things to a customer. They do projects throughout the school year.


Painted Dreams


Painted Dreams is a literary magazine that promotes the publication of students’ creative writing, photography, and drawing. If you like any of these things, this club might be for you.


TRU


TRU is a club that helps kids learn about drug-related facts and fight against peer pressure. They work often in the Panthers Den telling kids facts about tobacco products and playing informational quiz games with the students.
