DSCN6707Maddie Norwood is the 2013 junior editor for the Den Echoes Newspaper and she wants to be a politician when she grows up. She is building up her stance in politics by what she believes and what she is learning in newspaper. Norwood is using her school life to help her knowledge of a political lifestyle.

Norwood is a democrat who is running this year to be junior representative for SGA. She claimed “Even if I listen to Democratic and Republican points of view, I rarely agree with the Republican side at all.” She is hoping that being representative would help her hear both sides of the story and she feels that she could help her community become a better place.

Some things she feels strongly about are gun laws and the environment. She feels that guns are unnecessary and only hurt people. Norwood stated that they should only be used to kill animals. Norwood stated “ The environment, including the aforementioned animals, needs to be protected. We’re draining it to serve our own selfish interests, not caring about the millions and millions of animals and plants we’re killing in the process.” She also feels like everyone should be able to be treated fairly.

Norwood chose to be a politician after she watched Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. She said “They summed up my points of view in humorous ways, and their biting satirical remarks about Washington showed me that Congress needs new, pure blood that won’t be corrupted by money and power.” Norwood then decided she wanted to change the country with her political views.
