Wednesday, December 18, the Orange High School Panther wrestling team enhanced their record to 14-1 after a dominate 67 to 3 victory over crosstown rival Cedar Ridge. The match was also improved the Panthers conference record to 3-0.
Orange’s dominate performance was in large part due to seven OHS wrestlers scoring pins against their opponents. There were four major decisions, one of which was scored by sophomore 126 pounder, Gonzalo Garcia. Garcia says despite the good start, the team still has a lot of room for improvement, saying, “We’re a really young team, and we’ve got to work hard and get better everyday if we want to reach our goal.” That goal that Garcia mentioned is the Dual Team State Championship, which Orange has won five out of the last nine seasons.
The Panther’s have had a great start to this season, winning both the November Duals, and the Thanksgiving Quad, while also taking second at the Jim King Invitational and the Jim Coggins Round-Robin Tour. The Panthers will next compete at the Sergeant Mark Adams Tournament hosted by Cary High School.
