On Tuesday, December 9, the indoor track team at Orange High School attended their first track meet of the season at Eastern Alamance High School.  The girls team finished second overall, and the boys team finished in tenth place.

Indoor track is, in fact, not indoors.  The meets take place outside on the track at Eastern Alamance.  This past meet was rainy and 43 degrees, yet the event still took place.  The Orange Panthers competed against a multitude of other schools from Alamance, Graham, Durham, and Orange County.

The girls were strong competitors from the start, finishing second in the 4x800 race.  They followed up this success with a first place finish in the 4X200 race.  The girls had a second place finish at 6:08.51 by Juliana Lester in the 1600-meter event.  Melia Weeks placed second in girls high jump with a height of 4-07.00 feet, just two inches shy of the qualifying height.   The womens team had a combined total of 55 points, putting them in second place overall.

The boys participated in the 55-meter dash, 300-meter dash, 500-meter, 1600-meter run, and the 4X800.  However, they were only able to place in the 1600-meter run.  Robert Russell finished third overall in this event  with a time of 5:06.12.  The mens team received a total of 11 points, tying for second place with South Granville.

The 2014-2015 indoor track season for OHS is serving as a training and preparation season for spring track. The Panthers will continue to train and participate in the indoor track meets in hopes of getting the athletes qualified for the state championships at the end of the season.
