MarijuanaHave you ever thought about smoking marijuana or actually used it? The thought has most likely crossed your mind about what it feels like, or what really happens after you try it.

Research has shown that there are many negative effects of marijuana use in teens.   Smoking marijuana has increased tardiness and absences in teens who go to school, and an increase in accidents has occurred. Marijuana can affect your attention span, the way you think, and how you work.  Studies have shown that marijuana users tend to be more likely to drop out of school and usually have lower grades.

When marijuana enters the brain, it causes the user to feel more relaxed and happy, but this false good feeling fades quickly. Once these effects wear off, it causes the user to feel depressed and/or sleepy, causing additional complications.   Marijuana can cause users anxiety, fear, distrust, or panic.  According to a Monitoring the Future study in 2012, approximately 43 percent of twelfth grade teens admitted to using marijuana at least once in their lifetime, and about 30 percent admitted to using it in the past 30 days.

Using marijuana early in life can result in a variety of things--it can affect your memory, decrease your attention span, and cause you to lose your ability to think clearly. While intoxicated, just like alcohol, it affects your balance and movement. If used during school, marijuana can negatively affect your school performance, causing increased absences, and students don't perform as well in the classroom as they would if they weren’t on drugs.  IQ scores of teens who use marijuana have been shown to be lower.

Think twice before you consider using marijuana. It can affect you, your grades, and your performance in school. It can even affect others around you.
