Orange High School’s first Club Day, a part of National Career Development week, occurred November 12 in the Panthers Den. During all three lunches, students and faculty received the opportunity to explore offered clubs and to figure out how to become a member of such clubs.

Participating clubs included Orange Partnership for Youth Council, National Technical Honors Society, FBLA/Acts of Random Kindness, Robotics Club, TRU Club, and National Spanish Honors Society.

The event, sponsored by Evelyn DeLoatch, was meant to expand the horizons of students in preparation for the future.

“It’s important for students to be active in organizations because that’s where you are exposed to activities, networking career activities, to prepare you for your future jobs, so it’s a very important initial step students should be taking to get to their career,” DeLoatch said.

Blake Brewer, senior, was one of the two students who manned the FBLA/Acts of Random Kindness booth, both supported by Kelly Helner, and described the appeal of joining clubs: “It is highly important for students to be involved in clubs or student run activities. It allows you to be involved in your school and it takes commitment, involvement, and it allows you to embrace new people and ideas.”

DeLoatch started Club Day to figure out how students can be better prepared for career opportunities through becoming active in student organizations. She also mentioned that, although this is the first year that Club Day has existed, she plans to continue it next year.

“It was successful to those who participated because feedback was that several of [the clubs] received the names of students who were interested in joining.”
