Written by Matt McLaughlin

Orange High School began formal training October 31 for the 2012-13 season of our most historically famed sport: wrestling. The wrestling team’s head coach, Bobby Shriner,  has led the OHS wrestling team to countless victories over his time of wrestling with OHS.

There was a scrimmage November 10 at 9 A.M between Orange, Jordan, Southern Durham, and Millbrook High Schools. The scrimmage took place in the small gym at OHS.

The next wrestling event coming up is another scrimmage , which will take place November 17 at 10 A.M. at OHS. The schools who are competing are East Chapel Hill, East Forsyth, North Davidson, East Davidson, and Durham School of the Arts High Schools.

Of OHS’ many champions, our first State Champion was Jimmy Allen in 1978, who wrestled in the 129 weight class. The Panthers have had a total of 23 State Champions since Allen, including last year’s State Champion Zach Rimmer, who wrestled in the 145 weight class.

The OHS wrestling team is looking forward to a great season this winter and hope to lead OHS to yet another victory.
