After going on hiatus for the 2011 season, Coach Sarah Roberts is heading up indoor track this year. November 13 marked the first day of practice. Practice is from 4:00 to about 5:15 pm at the outside track Monday through Friday.

At the first practice, about ten girls and two guys showed up. Coach Roberts wants more people to come out and try out for the team.

Megan Joyner, a sophomore, said that she joined track this year because, “I just wanted to stay in shape for soccer and I like to run.”

Trevor Samsa, a junior, said he was joining the team so he would have something to do after school.

The indoor track team has many different events including a distance run, long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, and pole vault.

To raise money to help support the team, they are hosting a fundraiser with Silpada Jewelry in the media center from 5:00 to 6:30 pm November 20.

Coach Roberts is also the cross-country coach. The assistant coach of track is John Brigham, who is new this year. They made sure the people trying out are really dedicated to the sport by putting in place a rule that says one must attend all the practices that week to compete, plus follow school and state track rules.

The first meet is December 6 at 4:30 pm, and it is hosted by Eastern Alamance High School.
