Almost every American has heard the story of Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play Major League Baseball, but how many of them know the details of his story?

The movie 42 depicts Robinson’s (Chadwick Boseman) rise from the Negro Leagues all the way to Brooklyn, where he is met with tons of racial hatred from not only fans, but players and coaches as well. He also receives many death threats, and, despite wanting to fight with many teams, he keeps himself under control and wins the respect of many of his teammates with his abilities on the field.

Being a big sports fan, I found this film to be great, and one of my favorite moments of the movie is when Pee Wee Reese, the star of the Dodgers, says to Jackie, “Maybe tomorrow we'll all wear number 42 and they can't tell us apart.” The film also includes a good mix of music during the 1940s and ends with Jay Z’s song “Brooklyn We Go Hard.”

Overall, the film director did an excellent job in making a movie that not only sports fans would love, but everyone can enjoy. This movie is an inspiring film, that gives moviegoers a break from the common horror and action films. This film is a great representation of a true story of an American hero.
