Recently Den Echoes received a huge package in the mail from an upcoming band named Bad Seed Rising. It had a CD and posters in it, and it challenged us to write a review of the band’s new music. I had never guessed that they would quickly reach the top of my playlist, but after listening to them, I know they will be a favorite among teens and parents alike.
The CD, appropriately named Charm City, had five tracks on it, including “Bad Seed Rising,” “Hey Kid,” “Timebomb,” “King Kong,” and “Wolves at the Door.” The best and most memorable songs from the CD were “Hey Kid” and “Wolves at the Door.” These songs had a strong lead guitar and great vocals that made me want to hit replay every time. “Hey Kid” discussed fitting in with the normal teenage attitude. It pressed for a change in the mindset many teenagers have that they are entitled to the world. “Wolves At the Door” was a warning to girls about the ease of falling in lust with someone and getting trapped in a bad relationship.
Bad Seed Rising’s music could be compared to a softer version of Metallica. They are very similar in guitar and drumming styles. It would be better for younger kids, because the topics that Metallica cover are a lot harsher than what Bad Seed Rising covers.
The band has not only gotten my attention and the attention of its thousands of fans, but it has also gotten the attention of Daughtry, 3 Doors Down, and Black Veil Brides, all of whom have toured with it.
Bad Seed Rising originated in Maryland, where four teenagers had the desire to become a band. Mason Gainer, Aiden Marceron, Louey Peraza, and Francheska Pastor make up Bad Seed Rising and they range from the ages of 12 to 16. For people so young, they have a huge musical talent. Pastor, the eldest of the group, plays guitar and sings lead vocals. Gainer is the lead guitarist, 12-year-old Marceron is the drummer, and Peraza plays the bass.
Many people may ask, “How can people this young be interesting and have enough time and passion to become famous?” The band has invested a lot of time and money in their craft. They practice many times a week, take music lessons, and have given up on the normal schedule of public schools by becoming homeschooled. In an interview with the Baltimore Sun, Bad Seed Rising’s lead vocalist, Pastor said, “I just want to become so big that I don’t have to do anything else in my life. Just play music, and that’s it.”
