Senior Awards Night was held at 6:30 pm in the auditorium on May 27. Many seniors were awarded with scholarships, certificates, and honors to commemorate their hard work at Orange High School and in the community. There were also some other highlights that reminded the audience that OHS was still home to Panthers, even years after their graduation.
To begin the night, Principal Jason Johnson said a few words after the seniors were seated. There was a musical performance by the senior madrigals who attended the night. Jordan Toney, a graduating senior, led a group of five students that sang “Home” by Dierks Bentley.
After the musical performance, leaders in the community came up to announce the seniors who had received scholarships. Some seniors who were honored were Joe Piscitelli by the Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce, Nycol Lyons and Knisha Fearrington by Alpha Kappa Alpha, Adam Gates by the Lorie James Freeland Scholarship, and Lindsay Marie Keeter by the State Employee’s People Helping People Scholarship.
One part of the night that was very special to the graduating seniors at OHS was when the parents of Kacie Chamberlain gave out her scholarship. Angie Hurdle, Chamberlain’s mother, presented the award and reminded the seniors to be safe, wherever they are going in life. The scholarship was recently opened to all athletes. The recipients of the scholarship were Nicholas Gentile, Keegan Crabtree, Adam Gates, Collin Pope, Kaneisha Pettiford, and Mackenzie Cates.
Other groups that were honored included all members of Beta Club, Link Crew, and the Student Government Association.
