This article is on Orange High’s amazing Cierra Smith. Growing up around animals, Smith always wanted to pursue a career in Animal Science. She knew that experience around animals throughout her early life would yield to a successful studying and working career in the wide group of animal fields.
Currently, Smith is 16, a junior, and a staff writer for Orange High School’s newspaper. She is looking towards going to the University of North Carolina State, because of the high quality Animal and Agriculture department. She told me that she would also like to go to Appalachian State, because of her love for the mountains. Having taken Agricultural Science, Animal Science l, and Animal Science ll classes, she is well on her way to getting into either college.
Because of her love for animals, Cierra plans to have the career of a veterinarian, which is a person who takes care of injured or sick animals. She told me she would have an office, but be a travelling vet who can work with larger animals as well as small ones. She also said that if given the option, she would prefer a partner in her self-made business. When asked if she prefered to expand her company, she said that what she wanted to do was just a hobby, and she would work for the fun of it and not the money. Cierra also said that if the job as a vet did not fit the bill, she would also like to be a family doctor or a sports-reporter.
Finally, I asked where Cierra would live in the future if classes and jobs went accordingly. She said she would live in the mountains, and she said that currently she likes to go to the beach or mountains as a fun summer vacation.
